Blaisdon Bluebell 10k road race
Severn Athletic Club's revival of the Blaisdon May Day Bluebell 10km Road Race from the Red Hart firmly re-established it in the county road race series after a 10-year break,Winner, triathlete Dave Roper, said: "I thought I had misjudged my training. I was tired after mixing up my running and cycling training the day before. The course was hilly and the weather humid. However, I got the lead early on and lasted out."
There was a battle for second. Peter Stephens (Severn) commented: "I decided to let Dave get away and concentrate on beating Bill Leggate (Cirencester)."
The pair headed the chasing group and by two miles they were clear. Stephens kept opening up gaps only for Leggate to close each time. The uphill finish was decisive, Stephens opening up a 40 metre gap.
Prominent early on was Severn 17-year-old Alex Maton in his first 10K. He slipped back, but still won the under 20 prize.
Severn Athletic Club had all their scores in the top 10 to clinch the team prize.
Kim Mazzucco (Forest of Dean) won the ladies' prize.
