New Year Day 5 mile Road Race Report

New Year Day 5 mile Road Race

JEREMY BRADLEY became the first runner to complete the double in Severn AC's Christmas road races from the Pilot Inn.

Following his meeting in the Boxing Day four-mile, he returned for the more testing five-mile on New Year's Day, a race he won in 2003.

He had to fight a hard battle with Bristol's Philip Parry, the duo running a faster pace than in the shorter event as they passed halfway in 12 minutes, 52 seconds.

But Bradley's effort between three and four miles was decisive as he set a new event record of 25.41, 33 seconds off the course record held by Severn's Josh Lilly.

Andy Prophett (Cheltenham) won a tense five-man battle to take third place.

Severn retained their team title, with last year's victor Peter Stephens heading the team in fifth and veteran Dave Lander taking the Over-40 award in seventh.

In-form Tom Meheran sneaked into the top 10 with a pleasing sub-30 minute run, while Ian Overthrow (13th) and Dave Lowthian (14th) had another personal battle to secure the next two scoring positions.

The team was completed by Nicki Gaulder (31st), returning to the club after a two-year absence.
