Gloucester Autumn 5 mile Road Race

GARY HOPE of Severn AC capped a highly successful summer season with victory in the autumn White Horse Five Mile Road Race.

The national Over-40 5000m champion was in imperious mood, going straight into the lead and was never headed.

He ran his best veteran time of 26.34, his senior best was 25.53, to add the title to the County 10 Mile and Carnival Seven.

Hope was also a member of Severn's triumphant masters team in the National Cross-County Championships.

Seventeen-year-old novice Gareth Howells made more significant improvement, gaining his first top three placing in an open race.

Severn also defeated Tewkesbury to maintain their unbeaten record in team races, which now stretches back to June.

James Rose (ninth), a recruit from the club's fitness runs, the returning Stephen Hale (12th) and veteran Ian Overthrow (15th) completed the team.
