Arlingham 4.4 mile Road Race

Severn AC maintained their grip on the prizes in the 13th annual Arlingham Village 4.4 mile road race from the Red Lion.

Cheltenham triathlete Dave Roper turned the tables on rival Gary Hope who had beaten him in the county 10 mile championship last month. Roper set a fast pace which 2005 winner Hope never matched.

Hope held on for second to take the veteran's prize. Luke Herbert (Gloucester) returned from injury to take third place.

A six strong group battled just behind him with 17 year old Gareth Howells (Severn) taking fourth after breaking away with 600m to go. Dave Lander (Severn) was fifth and Andy Hawkins finished eighth to continue his fine form.

Severn won the team race with good performances by Tom Meheran (11th) as the over 50 winner and over 45 victor John Holland in 15th.

Lucie Woodyatt won the women's race by nearly six minutes.
