Gloucester Festival 7 mile Road Race
Gary Hope of Severn AC won the Festival Seven mile road race from the Pilot Inn in Hardwicke.
Hope, the rational over 40 5000m track champion was a runaway victor after going straight into the lead. His only challenger, Lee Christmas (Stroud) suffered cramp at halfway.
Hope equalled Steve Millward's 2007 time of 38.01, the record of 36.49 is held by Josh Lilly.
Second place was decided after a race long battle between two in form athletes. Andy Hawkins (Severn) beating Dave Gresswell (Gloucester) with a strong final mile.
Dave Lander (Severn) was fourth, despite his strong finish was unable to close the gap on third. Lee Christmas limped home in fifth.
Severn won the team title for the seventh successive year. Bill Griffiths (eighth) won the over 50 award , Steve Hale (ninth) made a welcome return and the team was completed by Gary Barnes (14th).
The ladies prize went to Severn's Lucie Woodyatt (11th) Her time of 44.53 puts her second on the course rankings and beat Jo Fletcher's club record by 59 seconds.
