Lloyds TSB Fitness Run (Race 2 of 5)
Alex Maton, the latest recruit to Severn AC's distance group won his first race since he started running three months ago.
Five days after his 18th birthday, he showed excellent pace judgement to be first past the post in the Lloyds TSB Four mile Fitness Run from the Pilot Inn.
The pace to halfway was set by fitness run regulars Simon Barnes (Stroud) and James Rose with Geoff Twinning tucked in. The turnaround was reached in 11.42 with Maton turning in 11.48. Over the next mile hecaught each rival in turn.
"I hit the front with a mile to go then concentrated on keeping my lead" he said.
Maton ran the second half 18 seconds quicker than the first, easily beating the 24 minute barrier which debars him from future fitness runs. Barnes and Rose were delighted to beat 24 minutes for the first time.
