In the Highworth five mile road race on Sunday, Simon Fortnam of Severn AC finished fifth in 27.43. Having raced for his club in the National 12 stage road relays the previous day it was always going to be tough to defend the title that he won in 2006. The race was won by Tim Crossland of Leeds in 25.37. Bourton Road Runners took the next three places through Mike Smith (26.30), Dennis Walmsley (26.47) and Alistair Lockey (27.07). Jane Wassell of Cirencester AC won the women’s race in 30.20.
