White Horse Easter 10k Road Race.
Gary Hope, of Severn AC, ended two years without a win with victory in the White Horse 10 kilometre Easter road race around Sandhurst. From the gun, marathon international Mike Cadman, Cirencester's Bill Leggatt and Hope detached themselves from the field.
At two miles up the first hill, Leggatt slipped away. Cadman did most of the leading up to four miles, where on the second climb Hope made his effort. It was decisive, with Hope increasing his lead to 200 metres at the finish.
"Last time I won was the 2006 Gloucester Festival '7'," he said. "Bill and Mike have both beaten me recently, so I thought I would wait to see if they dropped off the pace. The wind was a real stopper outwards, but was with us for the final mile-and-a-half."
Behind this trio, Dave Gresswell of Gloucester ran his best open race, finishing fifth to scoop the veterans over-40 award.
His club-mate Arthur Daley also handled the conditions well, breaking 40 minutes for the over-55 award.
In the team competitions, the emerging Tewkesbury and District Club won their first team race at the venue.
