Grocery 4 mile road race
Severn AC won the men's and ladies' team events in the Grocery Four Mile Road Race, from the White Horse, Sandhurst.

In very windy conditions John Willis of Bristol led all the way to record the third fastest time on the course of 19 minutes, 31 seconds.

Second was top Vet 40 runner Dave Kesterton (Halesowen), who broke clear of the chasing group at halfway.

Severn's Gary Hope produced his best form for a year finishing third in 21.02. Elder brother Alex showed similar improvement on his winter form, taking fifth after outsprinting perennial rival Billy Nock (Halesowen).

After a three month break from racing due to illness and holiday Simon Fortnam took 11th place in 22.50, while Austin Blackburn ran a PB in 16th place.

Les Davis won the over-60 prize and was Severn's fifth scorer, with son-in-law Mark Rawlings 19th and Severn stalwart Ian Pollard taking his first Over-50 prize.

The ladies' race was a quality affair, with Charlotte Coffey (Bristol) setting a fast pace.

At the mile marker, Jo Brewer (Cheltenham) and Sarah Hopkinson (Gloucester) were 20 metres behind.

Brewer was able to close the gap by halfway and went on to win by 100 metres, missing the ladies' record by a second.

Hopkinson, in third, broke the under-17 record by two minutes, and Jo Fletcher (fourth) led her improving team-mates Kasey White (25th) and Joanne Davies (eighth) to a Severn team victory.
