The Road Relays became a duel between Bristol and West and Cheltenham and County Harriers.Bristol's Mike O'Doherty built up a 10-second lead over Cheltenham's Mark Norris on lap one, which was reversed on lap two when Jeremy Bradley (Cheltenham) overtook Jerry Hogan (Bristol).
He handed over a lead of two minutes, 10 seconds to Eliott Prince, but Dan Moore (Bristol) reduced Cheltenham's advantage to 52 seconds.
On the last lap Bristol's Phil Parry ran a course Over-45 record of 15 minutes, 34 seconds to overtake Russell Forsbrook and give Bristol their first win in the event since 2005.
Cheltenham were rewarded with their first-ever county championship in this event.
The event incorporated the County Championships, with Gloucester Athletic Club deposing Stroud in the Over-40 category.
The Over-50s' and ladies' events were held over three laps. After Severn's Tom Meheran had set the day's fastest time of 17 minutes, 56 seconds, Gloucester recovered to hold on to their title. Stroud retained their Over-60 title.
A young Under-15 Gloucester side were the surprise ladies' winners, wresting their first-ever title from Tewkesbury.
Bourton Road Runners were first-time champions in the ladies' Over-35 age group.
