6th Annual Pilot Inn Boxing Day race
Will Ferguson was victorious in Severn AC's Christmas four Mile Road Race. The CLC Striders athlete improved on his second position last year to win by over a minute at the Pilot Inn, Hardwicke.
Ferguson lead all the way through, improving his time from last year by a second.
However more intriguing battles ensued for the minor placings. Severn AC's Kyran Hale and James Rose, along with their Gloucester AC training partner Adam Thrall tracked Ferguson. At halfway Hale only had Thrall for company, breaking away with a quicker second half of the race, only to loose out on second position to Cheltenham youngster Will New's fast finish.
Hales time of 22mins 7secs shattered his own U/15 record by 1min 36secs.
The junior athlete led his Severn AC team home to victory, maintaining their 100% record in the races eight year history.
James Rose in 6th ran a personal best while Ian Smith (8th) ran a seasons best to win the over 45 prize. Dave Lowthian was close to his personal best in 16th while 5th scorer Andy Norman (18th) won his first prize in the over 55 age group. The team was completed by Nicky Gaulder (19th) who broke 25mins for the first time.
In the ladies race, CLC Striders Rachel Vine had to work hard to fight off the challenge of U/20 Rachel Underhill of Severn, who recorded a personal best by over a minute to secure her first senior placing in an open event.
Severn’s success was completed by over 65 victor Dave Blackburn.
