White Horse 4 x 3.25 mile road relays

Severn AC improved on their 2008 performances in the 2009 County Road Relay Championships.

After a void year they won gold and two silvers as the championships were incorporated into the open event.

The senior team was led off by 17 year old Gareth Howells who held off training partner Adam Thrall (Gloucester) for eighth place.

On lap two, the city rivals were locked in a battle with Peter Kellie (Gloucester) establishing a 39 second lead over Dave Lander as the clubs moved up to fourth and fifth.

Richard De Camps (Gloucester) then increased the advantage to 1.47 over Simon Fortnam (Severn) as the places remained unchanged. Severn's Josh Lilly stormed around in the day's second fastest time of 15.27 to catch Gloucester's Nick Cousins and secure fourth place and county silver.

Severn's Vet 40 team won the title for the first time since 2000, captain Alex Hope building up a 54 second lead on leg one.

Tom Meheran on lap two ran the fastest V50 leg in 18.23, increasing Severn's lead to almost four minutes. Ian Smith added another 50 seconds to this on leg three leaving John Holland to bring Severn home to a runaway victory.
