White Horse Winter 5 mile road race
Dan Robinson blitzed the field in the Winter Five-Mile road race from the White Horse, Sandhurst. Already the holder of the course record (23 minutes, 50 seconds) from 2004, Robinson took 10 seconds off that time.
With the London Marathon and Olympic Marathon as 2008 targets, he is delighted to be in such good form.
Second man Phil Parry (Bristol) ran one of the best UK Vet 45 times of the year and was just ahead of Cheltenham's Jeremy Bradley, who was pleased his return from injury and is progressing well.
Wendy Nicholls, of Cirencester AC, sliced 44 seconds off her own course record with a personal best to finish fifth in 26:56.
Team victors were hosts Severn AC, eighth placed Dave Lander leading them home with his best time for several seasons. Tom Meheran (ninth) won the Over-50s, running his fastest ever in the age group. Over-45 winner John Holland (11th) ran a PB, two seconds outside the 30 minute barrier. Newcomers Martin Cleverley (16th) and Greg Underhill (23rd), along with Over-55 winner John James (26th), completed the team.
Severn Ladies won their event, with all three scorers running PBs. Regular team scorer Jo Fletcher (13th) was complemented by newcomer city schools champion Rachel Underhill (24th) and Kasey White (27th).
Tewkesbury AC duo Sue Bruce and Barry O'Driscoll both had pleasing runs. Slowly easing her way back to fitness, Bruce completed the course in 33 minutes. O'Driscoll maintained his purple patch and narrowly missed his personal best, clocking 34 minutes.
Angels Running Club's Debbie Lee recorded 36.57 and was followed by clubmate Deborah Southgate in 38.02, who won the veteran 50 prize.
Dave Spackman, Angels' coach from Gloucester AC, also took part and was rewarded with yet another veteran 60 prize for his efforts in 32.44.
