Severn AC news roundup - 26/02/2010

February 26, 2010

Tim Dalton ran in the 1500 metres at the National Indoor Championships in Sheffield. Tim recorded his second best result of the season with 3.57.3 minutes, to finish eighth in the heat.

Severn Athletic Club's athletes sparkled at the Birmingham Indoor Games.

17 year old Gareth Winter surprised himself placing second in the Shot Putt, his first top three placing at national level in a senior competition. Although unable to match Frenchman Alain De Bois' 18.20 metres winning throw, Winter became the first Severn athlete to break the 14 metre barrier with an effort of 14.10metres. Winter later explained his surprise; "I had a hamstring injury all week and didn't expect much, also the soft indoor shot isn't as solid as the outdoor version when you push against it."

In the 1500 metres 22 year old Tim Dalton was two seconds outside his club record, with a time of 3.51.8. He stayed with the pace until the final 200metres, taking the lead at the bell, before losing out winner Frank Baddick (Loughbrough) and missing second spot over the line.

Josh Lilly helped Birmingham University to silver medal in the British University Cross-Country Championships at Stirling, placing 21st. After he said; "It was better than the run in the Midland Championships and I was within 40 seconds of 10th place, but I still dont feel at my best."

Elsewhere, Severn AC's Dave Lander marked his return from an achilles tendon injury with victory in the Vet 40 section of the Shortwood Bristol 5K road race.
